Professor William “Bill” Roeting, CAPT, USN (Ret) is a Research Professor and Director of National Security Programs at George Mason University. He is the founder of the university’s Rapid Prototyping Research Center (RPRC), which supports Department of Defense and Intelligence Community sponsors by rapidly integrating advanced technologies into existing systems—shortening delivery timelines to 1–3 years and reducing costs while enhancing battlefield capabilities. His research has focused on networking interoperability for battlefield communications, with emphasis on Special Operations Forces and Joint Terminal Attack Controllers.

His final military assignment was as Director of Naval Space Systems at the Pentagon, where he oversaw UHF, SHF, and EHF satellite programs and the Navy’s Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities (TENCAP) office.

Professor Roeting also established the Defense Information System Technology (DIST) curriculum at George Mason University, now offered through its BAS and BIS degree programs. In the private sector, he has held executive roles including Director of East Coast Operations for Special Programs at Hughes Space and Communications, and served as Senior Vice President and COO in the mobile communications industry.
