Dr. Theresa Mayer
Dr. Theresa S. Mayer is Vice President for Research at Carnegie Mellon University, where she provides strategic leadership across the university’s research enterprise and promotes the role of science and technology in solving global challenges. She also holds joint faculty appointments in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.
Before joining CMU, Dr. Mayer served as Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships at Purdue University and Vice President for Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech. She spent over 20 years at Penn State, where she was a Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and led major research infrastructure initiatives, including directing the NSF Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network site and the Materials Research Institute Nanofabrication Lab.
An internationally recognized expert in nanotechnology, Dr. Mayer’s work on integrating advanced materials into electronic and photonic devices has led to over 350 publications, eight patents, and several commercialized technologies. She is a Fellow of the IEEE and has received numerous awards for her research, teaching, and leadership in advancing women in STEM.
