Drew Walter
Mr. Drew Walter serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters, overseeing the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. He leads efforts across the Department of Defense on issues related to the nuclear stockpile, counterterrorism, and counterproliferation.
He previously served as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment and as Principal Director in the Office of Nuclear Matters. Before joining the Department, Mr. Walter was a professional staff member on the House Armed Services Committee, where he managed oversight of nuclear deterrence and related programs totaling over $30 billion annually.
Earlier in his career, he was a Senior Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, where he led physical security assessments for U.S. nuclear weapons. Mr. Walter holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
