Jeff Braun

Senior Director of Strategic Development and the Office of Innovation, Systems Planning and Analysis (Moderator)

Mr. Braun currently serves as the Senior Director of Strategic Development for Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc.  In this role, he co-leads SPA’s newly-established Office of Innovation, leads multiple contracts, studies and AoAs, and business development efforts, advises senior DoD leadership on nuclear weapons design and strategy, serves as a nuclear weapons subject matter expert, and runs the nuclear weapons design, physics, and effects curriculum for the company. 

Prior to his joining SPA, Mr. Braun served on the Joint Staff/J5 as a Scientific Nuclear Weapons Advisor, where he advised leadership within the J5 and the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on technical, programmatic, enterprise, strategic, and geopolitical issues pertaining to nuclear weapons and was an Action Officer to the Nuclear Weapons Council (NWC).

Mr. Braun has a decade of experience from Sandia National Labs, where he led the design of nuclear weapon systems and components from both the Albuquerque and Livermore sites.  During this timeframe, he led large teams of scientists, engineers, and manufacturers to incorporate modern technologies into the nuclear stockpile.  Prior to working at Sandia, Mr. Braun developed RF communications technologies to link DoD ground platforms with satellite constellations at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

Jeff received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, with a focus in electromagnetic physics. He currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the National Defense Industrial Association’s Integrated Precision Warfare division (NDIA/IPW) and as Working Group Co-Chair within the Military Operations Research Society (MORS).
