Lieutenant Colonel Jared Bindl serves as the Chief, Science, Technology, and Innovation Officer within the J8 Directorate at U.S. Africa Command. With over two decades of active duty service in the U.S. Air Force, Lt Col Bindl brings extensive technical and operational experience spanning space control, electronic warfare, multi-domain integration, and advanced program development. He currently leads AFRICOM’s innovation and technology strategy, guiding efforts to identify, assess, and integrate emerging capabilities to address warfighter needs across the African theater.

Prior to his current assignment, Lt Col Bindl held key leadership roles in the Space Security and Defense Program (SSDP), U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA), and the Space Test and Training Range (STTR). His responsibilities have included managing multi-million dollar prototyping portfolios, guiding strategic technology integration for joint and coalition operations, and supporting national-level space control strategy formulation. He has also served as a flight test engineer for the F-15 and F-16 platforms, contributing to critical electronic warfare assessments and tactics development.

Lt Col Bindl holds a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering with concentrations in applied electromagnetics, signal processing, RF systems, and satellite communications. He is pursuing a second master’s degree in business and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification to complement his technical leadership. Passionate about innovation and cross-domain collaboration, he remains committed to staying at the forefront of technological advancement in support of national security.
