The Honorable Michael Duffey
The Honorable Michael Duffey serves as the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (USD(A&S)), where he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Department of Defense’s acquisition system, logistics and sustainment enterprise, contracting, industrial base resilience, nuclear and chemical defense programs, and the development of the acquisition workforce. He leads efforts to ensure that U.S. forces are equipped, supplied, and sustained with the capabilities necessary to maintain military readiness and technological advantage.
Mr. Duffey brings over two decades of leadership across the Department of Defense, having held senior roles including Deputy Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense and Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary for Research and Engineering. He has driven major initiatives to strengthen systems engineering, safeguard critical technologies from foreign adversaries, and accelerate the development of cutting-edge defense systems.
Outside of the Pentagon, Mr. Duffey served as Program Associate Director for National Security at the White House Office of Management and Budget, where he directed the $1+ trillion national security portfolio. In that role, he advanced key initiatives including U.S. nuclear modernization, the establishment of the U.S. Space Force, and a comprehensive 30-year shipbuilding strategy focused on maritime dominance.
Mr. Duffey holds a degree from the University of Wisconsin and is widely recognized for his contributions to defense acquisition reform, innovation policy, and national security budgeting.
