Vice Adm. Dion English, USN

Director for Logistics, J4, The Joint Staff

Vice Adm. Dion English currently serves as Director, Logistics Division (N4L), Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. A native of Monroeville, Alabama, and Slidell, Louisiana, he was commissioned through the Navy ROTC program in 1993 after graduating from Louisiana State University. He also holds master’s degrees in Business Administration from Old Dominion University and in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College and completed the Executive Program in Strategy and Organization at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

A career logistics and supply officer, English has held numerous operational and leadership roles afloat and ashore. His sea tours include service aboard USS Scott (DDG 995), USNS San Diego (T-AFS 6), and USS Barry (DDG 52), as well as command of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit ONE. Ashore, he held key positions at the Defense Supply Center Columbus, Joint Task Force Civil Support, U.S. Pacific Fleet, and Navy Personnel Command. He also commanded Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella, Italy.

As a flag officer, English has served as Director of Logistics, Fleet Supply and Ordnance (N4) at U.S. Pacific Fleet; Vice Director for Logistics (J-4) on the Joint Staff; and currently leads Navy-wide logistics policy and readiness efforts at OPNAV N4.

He is designated a Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer, a Navy Expeditionary Supply Corps Officer, a Joint Qualified Officer, and a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps. Among his many honors, he received the Admiral Stan Arthur Award for Logistics Team of the Year in 2018. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and Meritorious Service Medal, among others.
