The safety and security of all attendees, speakers, government representatives, industry participants, staff, contractors, invited guests, and other event participants are priorities of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). Enhanced security measures will be in place throughout ETC/DA/DS. This policy establishes security, screening, credentialing, access, firearms and weapons, and participants conduct requirements applicable to the event. The policy applies to all individuals entering or participating in ETC/DA/DS-controlled event areas. Possession of an event registration or credential authorizes participation only in accordance with applicable security requirements and does not exempt any individual from required screening or access-control procedures.
All attendees should arrive early and allow additional time for security screening so that screening procedures do not interfere with attendance at scheduled sessions, meetings, or other event activities.
General Security Requirements
The following security requirements apply throughout ETC/DA/DS:
· All persons and bags are subject to search.
· Official event badges must be visible and worn at all times within event-controlled areas.
· Attendees may be required to remove coats and outerwear, including suit or sport jackets, at designated screening locations.
· Oversized bags and roller bags will be subject to secondary screening at entrances to ETC/DA/DS areas.
· Access to designated event areas may be restricted based on credentials or security requirements.
· Attendees must comply with applicable venue security protocols and property policies.
· Attendees must follow instructions provided by authorized security personnel, venue staff, NDIA staff, and law enforcement.
Security procedures may be increased, modified, or otherwise adjusted during the event based on current information and conditions.Security Screening
Security screening is a condition of entry into ETC/DA/DS-controlled areas.
Depending upon the security requirements in effect at a particular time or location, screening will include:
- Verification of event credentials.
- Inspection of bags, briefcases, backpacks, computer bags, cases, and other personal belongings.
- Oversized and roller bags will be subject to secondary screening at entrances to ETC/DA/DS areas.
- Removal of coats, jackets, or other outerwear.
- Screening at designated access points; and
- Additional reasonable security procedures established by NDIA, the venue, contracted security personnel, or law enforcement.
Attendees should minimize the number and size of personal items brought to the event whenever possible to facilitate the screening process. An individual’s successful completion of screening at one entry point does not exempt that individual from subsequent screening if required when entering another controlled area or reentering the event.
Attendees should plan accordingly and allow additional time if bringing roller bags, large briefcases or backpacks, equipment cases or any oversized equipment.
Restricted and Controlled Areas
Certain rooms, meetings, speaker preparation areas, staff areas, or other locations may be designated as restricted or controlled-access areas. Entry into these areas may require additional credentials, authorization, or screening.
Participants must not:
- Enter restricted areas without authorization.
- Attempt to bypass established security checkpoints.
- Hold or prop open controlled doors for unauthorized individuals.
- Allow another person to use their credential.
- Circumvent security screening or
- Interfere with access-control procedures.
Washington DC Convention Center Guidelines
All attendees and participants must comply with the venue’s policies governing firearms and weapons.
Firearms are not permitted anywhere on the property except when specifically authorized by DCC management and permitted under applicable law. This restriction applies to all event participants, including individuals who may otherwise possess a license or permit to carry a firearm, except where expressly permitted by venue policy and applicable law. Questions regarding firearms or weapons requirements should be directed to the DCC Security Department. Nothing in this policy supersedes applicable federal or District of Columbia law, venue requirements, or lawful directives from authorized law enforcement personnel.Photography, Recording, and Electronic Devices
Possession of an event credential does not automatically authorize photography, video recording, audio recording, livestreaming, or other electronic capture in every event area. Participants must comply with posted restrictions and instructions concerning photography, recording, mobile devices, cameras, or other electronic equipment. Where photography or recording is prohibited, participants must immediately comply with instructions from NDIA staff, security personnel, speakers, or venue personnel. Additional restrictions may apply to government presentations, controlled meetings, demonstrations, presentations containing proprietary information, or other designated activities.
Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, security incident, evacuation, shelter-in-place directive, medical emergency, or other significant event, participants must follow instructions issued by venue personnel, security personnel, NDIA staff, law enforcement, or emergency responders.
Participants should:
- Remain aware of their surroundings.
- Identify available exits upon entering event areas.
- Keep aisles, corridors, and exits unobstructed.
- Avoid interfering with emergency-response personnel.
- Follow evacuation or shelter instructions promptly; and
- Refrain from reentering a restricted or evacuated area until authorized.
Attendee Responsibilities
All attendees are expected to cooperate with established security procedures and follow instructions from authorized security personnel, venue staff, NDIA staff, and law enforcement. Failure to comply with security requirements or instructions may result in denial of entry or removal from the premises.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, minimize bags and personal belongings, have event badges visible when approaching controlled areas, and allow additional time for screening. Participants should follow posted signage and be prepared for changes in security or access procedures.
NDIA appreciates your cooperation and advance planning as we work to provide a safe, secure, and professional environment for all ETC/DA/DS participants.
